Kimball Electronics

Jasper, Indiana

Kimball Electronics is a preeminent Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) provider serving customers around the world. Their contract electronics manufacturing services teams provide manufacturing, engineering and supply chain services, design and testing services, as well as regulatory support processes, which utilize common production and support capabilities for a variety of industries globally.

Situation:

Based on feedback from an existing client, Kimball Electronics explored the MedAccred accreditation process in hopes to improve their competitiveness in the medical device industry. MedAccred is an industry-managed supply chain oversight program that reduces risk to patient safety, assures quality products, and verifies compliance with requirements as they apply to critical processes used in the production of medical devices. The MedAccred certification covers eight special manufacturing processes, including printed circuit board assembly (PCBA). This process is the main function at the Kimball Electronics facility in Jasper.

Solution:

Through participation in the MedMAPP program, Purdue MEP provided MedAccred Stage 1 audit support to Kimball Electronics. A Purdue MEP industry specialist and a Performance Review Institute auditor engaged with the staff at Kimball Electronics to conduct a pre-audit assessment to identify any potential issues or gaps that needed to be addressed prior to the official audit. The assessment team provided Kimball Electronics with useful information to ensure the company was ready for the MedAccred accreditation audit.

Results:

Kimball Electronics successfully received the MedAccred certification in April 2019. Gaining the MedAccred certification put the company’s products in a position to acquire additional suppliers in the medical supplier industry.

“Purdue MEP assisted us in the Stage 1 audit for MedAccred. Their assistance was much appreciated in helping us find a qualified auditor and preparing us for the Stage 2 audit. Our Purdue MEP contact kept up communication throughout the process and was a contributor to our success.”

Jay Matthews, Quality Manager, Kimball Electronics
