ISSI, formerly known as Industrial Sales & Supply, Inc., was founded in 1991 by Max Rettig, who began with nothing more than industry knowledge, strong relationships, and a determination to meet customer needs. Working from his property in Plainfield, Indiana, Max didn’t own any machines at first. Instead, he partnered with trusted shops, personally inspected the work, and ensured every part met his high standards before delivering them himself. His commitment to quality and reliability quickly earned trust, and as demand grew, so did the company, prompting Max to invest in his own machines to better serve his customers.
In 2006, ISSI moved into its current location in Indianapolis, expanding its capabilities and services. A second building was added in 2011 to support continued growth. Following Max’s passing in 2020, ISSI was acquired by Gribbins Specialty Group, preserving his legacy of craftsmanship, integrity, and service while positioning the company for the future.
Today, ISSI is a full-service machining and precision grinding shop, offering advanced machining and engineering services—still driven by the values Max built the business on: hard work, responsiveness, and a deep understanding of customer needs.
The Challenge:
ISSI realized that in order to get to where the company wanted to be in terms of a robust quality management system, having a secure and dependable computer information system, and implementing best practices within a machine shop performing aerospace and defense projects, they needed help and support so they turned to Purdue MEP.
The Solution:
ISSI partnered with Purdue MEP for a Level 1 (L1) CMMC Cybersecurity Assessment, ISO 9001 implementation and audit, a risk management program implementation, and consulting in preparation for an audit by a priority client of a specific supplier quality program.
The Results:
The L1 CMMC assessment and score were submitted with assistance from Purdue MEP and cyberTAP. ISO 9001 certification was implemented, and ISSI passed the audit with flying colors! The shop is now highly organized, and processes are being followed compared to before, when there was a lot of disorganization and miscommunication happening. ISSI’s key customer removed the company from a probation status after it complied with the customer’s risk management and supplier quality program standards, ensuring ISSI is back to bidding on and fulfilling orders.
Impact Metrics:
- The retention of sales from the key customer is upwards of $1.5 million since ISSI began working with Purdue MEP, and the jobs related to their key customer alone equal four positions maintained.
- They also landed a new customer directly as a result of their ISO 9001 certification which promises to be an account that will produce six-figure projects on an annual basis moving forward.
"Purdue MEP continues to provide ISSI with cost-effective, high value training and consulting for key projects that are vital to the success, growth, and stability of our company moving forward."
- Brenton Rettig, General Manager, ISSI Engineering and Machining
