BraunAbility

Winamac, Indiana

BraunAbility is the world's leading manufacturer of wheelchair accessible vehicles and wheelchair lifts in the mobility industry. Founded in 1972 by Ralph Braun, the corporation was built on the age-old adage, "Necessity is the mother of invention." Ralph Braun was a young man who used a wheelchair and had no reliable transportation to and from his place of work. He built his first wheelchair accessible vehicle in 1972, and since then the company has grown into the most well-known and trusted name in the mobility industry, bringing independence to millions of individuals across the world.

Situation

An increased need for automation of various assembly and testing processes. This helps drives safety, quality, and productivity gains into our manufacturing operations.

Solution

A 40 hour course on Introduction to Programmable Logic Controllers.

Results

"We have a project in process currently to implement automation using the skills we acquired from this MEP course. We estimate the automation of the DPA testing process to cut the cycle time in half and provide logged test data for future reference.

We are extremely pleased with the curriculum of the course and the balance between lecture and lab. MEP provided portable lab units that worked great to apply what was being taught in the course. Our teacher was very knowledgeable with years of practical knowledge using PLC’s. We’re looking forward to implementing multiple projects in the future using our acquired skills."
