Amcor

Evansville, Indiana

Amcor is the global leader in developing and producing responsible consumer packaging and dispensing solutions across a variety of materials for nutrition, health, beauty, and wellness categories. Its global product innovation and sustainability expertise enable it to solve packaging challenges around the world every day, producing a range of flexible packaging, rigid packaging, cartons, and closures that are more sustainable, functional, and appealing for its customers and consumers. Amcor is guided by its purpose of elevating customers, shaping lives, and protecting the future. Supported by a commitment to safety, over 75,000 people generate $23 billion in annualized sales from operations that span over 400 locations in more than 40 countries.

The Challenge:

Amcor made a commitment to leadership development and continuous improvement with the formation of a Continuous Improvement (CI) Manager team in late 2024. As part of that team’s training and development, Amcor determined that each CI Manager would complete Six Sigma Black Belt training and certification.

The Solution:

Amcor partnered with Purdue MEP to complete the rigorous Black Belt Training and to mentor ten CI Managers through their projects to complete the certification.

The Results:

The CI Manager team completed the training in two week-long training sessions and spent the next 3-4 months completing projects addressing a variety of business needs, including the reduction of process waste, downtime, and variation. CI Managers learned what it meant to be a mentor from their Purdue MEP mentor – Jennifer Christie – and several are now mentoring colleagues through their own Six Sigma journey.

Impact Metrics:

  • Each project contributed over $25,000 in annualized savings and more than 70 team members across 10 plants participated.
  • With 10 projects completed, this represents more than $250,000 in savings each year.

"Our partnership with Purdue MEP delivered exactly what we were looking for – high caliber training and a commitment to success with our CI Manager team through the Six Sigma certification process. The curriculum was both rigorous and business applicable. Our team was empowered with knowledge and skills to take on projects and deliver real results to our production facilities and team members in just a few weeks. For anyone looking for a Black Belt Certification program that translates learning into action and results, I would recommend working with the Purdue MEP team!"
