IN-MaC: Technology & Productivity Solutions


The Indiana Next Generation Manufacturing Competitiveness Center (IN-MaC) is Purdue University’s response to the economic challenge facing the United States over the next decade: How do we create growth and sustain the American Dream for generations to come? Technology is moving quickly, and must be transferred to industry quickly in order to remain competitive. The IN-MaC Technology & Productivity Solutions program provides grant-funded assistance from university experts to help manufacturers incorporate new competitive technologies. The Indiana Next Generation Manufacturing Competitiveness Center, IN-MaC, is accepting inquiries for technology and productivity solutions projects.

Eligible manufacturing companies: Indiana based companies or facilities.

Partnership objective: Adoption of technologies that will strengthen competitiveness and add or preserve jobs in Indiana.

Technology and Productivity Solutions Project Details:
  • Personnel will include Purdue faculty and graduate students working closely with engineers, technologists and managers in the participating companies
  • The scope of work will generally be 3-6 months for adoption of the selected technology  
  • Purdue will facilitate the technology adoption with on-site and campus-based assistance, pilot projects and mentoring
  • Purdue will invest $20,000 to $40,000 in most projects
    • Companies will invest a minimum of half the Purdue-invested amount through in-kind contributions (the dollar value of participating personnel) and expenditures (software, computers, etc.)
  • Outcome measurement will be pre-determined for each project and in general will include impact on jobs, sales and competitiveness, level of adoption and other factors
Technology and Productivity Solutions Focus Areas:
  • Digital engineering for product design, including finite element methods, materials characterization and computational fluid dynamics
  • Product lifecycle management, including model-based engineering, supply chain integration and the supporting technologies such as 3D modeling
  • Production systems modeling and design, including factory flow optimization and layouts, data intelligence, line simulations and warehouse systems
