Delegation: Using Time and Resources Effectively

Delegation, when used properly, is one of the most important leadership skills. Effective delegation saves time and develops your people helping others to grow in capabilities, skills and knowledge. This learning module helps one recognize the need to delegate as a means to accomplish more through others. Delegation is defined, the delegation process is introduced and through the use of case studies, participants will evaluate what can and cannot be delegated. Several self-assessments will also be used as a means to recognize barriers and opportunities to grow toward more effective delegation.

 

Our Objectives:

  • To define delegation
  • To understand the importance of effective delegation
  • To identify barriers to delegation, the benefits of delegation, and which kinds of tasks can be delegated
  • To provide a method for delegating
  • To provide an opportunity for participants to practice planning delegation in accordance with the designed method

Outcomes:

  • Grow in one's own understanding of what delegation entails
  • Discover one's own strengths and weaknesses toward delegation
  • Evaluate the three factors that produce results through delegation
  • Use the five stage delegation process to better understand how to effectively delegate

  • How to explore the barriers to delegation and develop plans to overcome these barriers
  • How to identify the benefits to delegation
  • To work through the five stage process to visualize ways to improve one's delegation capabilities
  • To discover what you can and cannot delegate
